How to set a daily app limit on Android

Choose an app in App Break, allow the access shown in the setup guide, and set a daily limit. Start with a one or two minute test so you can confirm the limit screen before choosing your normal time.

Set up your first limit

  1. Open App Break and choose one app.
  2. Follow the on-screen guidance to review the required usage and accessibility related access. Menu names vary by Android version and phone maker.
  3. Set a short daily limit and use the selected app until the limit screen appears.
  4. After the test works, change it to the time you want.

Review access

Check both App Break and Android Settings. A system update, app update or device maintenance tool can change access settings.

Review battery restrictions

Some phones restrict background apps aggressively. If Android heavily restricts App Break battery use, detection can be delayed.

Test one app first

Use one selected app and a short limit before adding more. This makes it easier to distinguish a setup problem from a longer timing issue.

Keep in mind

Timing and enforcement can be affected by Android and manufacturer settings. App Break is a voluntary digital habit tool. Take care when selecting essential communication or safety related apps.
